When the Ground Shifts: Finding Your Way After Career Loss or Change

Losing a job, or feeling lost in the one you have, can shake your identity and often leave you confused and feeling like you’re not yourself. Who are you, if not this job that you do, right? It’s more than just a disruption to your routine or income. It can stir up fear, shame, and a deep questioning of your worth. You might wonder: What did I do wrong? What comes next? Will I be ok? These are not just career questions. They’re human ones.

I’ve faced this crossroads several times. I’ve worked with countless professionals who have, too. They are smart, capable people suddenly unsure of their footing. The world they once knew no longer fits, and the future feels uncertain. It’s okay to feel untethered. You’re not broken. You’re in transition. And that space, though disorienting, is also where your next chapter begins.

One way to begin shifting the fear is to reframe the story you’re telling yourself. Instead of “I’ve lost everything,” try “I’m in a season of redefinition.” Instead of “I failed,” try “I’m being redirected.” Small shifts like these help build a bridge between fear and possibility — and I’m here to help you walk across it.

This chapter may not be one you chose, but it can still lead somewhere meaningful.

One more add, the answer is never a one-size-fits-all plan. Some clients need to rebuild a résumé or prepare for interviews. Others simply want to remember who they are. Wherever you are in your process, you don’t have to walk it alone.

If this resonates with you, and you’re ready for support, you can take a look at how I work here. Let’s explore what’s next, together.
